In a jubilant celebration of the ever-evolving world of podcasting, East Coast Breakfast took the reins in marking International Podcast Day™ with finesse. 

This special day, observed globally and celebrated on 30 September, is a tribute to the power of podcasts and the dynamic voices that resonate through this medium.

Darren Maule, Sky Tshabalala, and Carmen Reddy have looked at podcasts that have really touched them over the years, but there are three specific podcasts that really hit home.

'The Carol Ofori Podcast' has been a hit and it shows just how much Carol Ofori and the team have done a splendid job. 

They are currently in their second season and it's going from strength to strength with every episode.

The episode that stood out for us was when Carol sat down with the inventor of Vodacom's 'Please Call Me' service. 

Kenneth Nkosana Makate developed the 'Please Call Me' concept while he was working as a trainee accountant at Vodacom in 2000.

African Story Magic with Gcina Mhlophe

The second podcast streamed via ECR is 'African Story Magic with Gcina Mhlophe'.

Mam'Gcina shares many of the tales you grew up with, plus new stories so we can keep the magic of African storytelling alive for new generations. It's available in English or isiZulu.

For the Breakfast team, Episode 6, which was titled, Nozincwadi: Mother of Books, was one of the highlights. 

The sixth episode of ‘African Story Magic with Gcina Mhlophe’ is a very special story. 

It’s written by Dr Gcina Mhlophe herself to honour her late great-grandmother, Nozincwadi, who was unable to read or write, but loved the magic of words.
