Durban – strike a pose! International Yoga Day is coming
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
Stretch, breathe, and soak up the vibes! Durban’s beachside celebration of International Yoga Day kicks off this April.

Durban! Get ready to roll out those mats this Saturday, April 12.
North Beach is about to become the chillest spot in the city as the launch of the 11th United Nations International Day of Yoga kicks off from 1 pm to 4 pm, next to the Suncoast complex.
Picture this. Waves crashing in the background, the sun kissing your skin, and hundreds of yogis flowing in perfect harmony.
It’s the perfect warm-up for the main event happening on June 21 at the Durban Amphitheatre, where thousands are expected to gather for a massive yoga celebration.
The Sivananda World Peace Foundation is behind all the zen, with strong backing from local and national government.
This isn’t just about striking a pose. It’s about bringing communities together, promoting wellness, and showing off Durban as the vibey, multicultural hotspot it is.
Ishwar Ramlutchman, also known as Prince Mabheka Zulu, put it perfectly: “The serenity of yoga blends seamlessly with our diverse cultures, symbolising unity and wellness.” We love to see it.
In previous years, over 3,000 people have hit the sand to get their stretch on – even the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi joined in.
This year, organisers are aiming even higher. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or just curious to see what downward dog is all about, everyone’s invited.

The best part is yoga isn’t just for adults.
The “Yoga for Humanity” initiative is bringing the practice to schools across the province, helping kids stay active, centred, and mentally fit.
So Durban, take a deep breath. The countdown to International Yoga Day has officially begun and it’s looking like pure bliss.
