DKS Highlights of the Week: Jenny Bowes and The Piano

Once again music finds a way to make us feel better as we recover from #KZNShutdown

After the horrific week KZN residents experienced the previous week, we were all hoping for peace and quiet so that we could at least feel safe, most of all. Fortunately the week went by quite swiftly without much disruption.

We kicked of the Monday by talking to Jenny Bowes, a woman who turned to music when all words failed her emotion during the #KZNShutdown. She had been at a storage facility that was looted and burnt down to try and recover her brother's belongings. When she saw a piano she knew she had to express herself the best way she knows how. What she didn't know is that she would touch people's hearts.

We got to talk to her:

We also got the chance to speak to The Director of Gumtree who gave us a heads up about shopping on Gumtree after so many corporations had been looted. It is likely that people are trying to get rid of some furniture or appliances, so how do you know if the item you are buying was looted or not?

Claire Cobbledick explains this right here:

As the week continued and we were slowing returning to normal, businesses were checking how much they have lost and how they will forge a way forward. The South African Property Owners Association for the numbers they have gathered regarding how much the province lost from #KZNShutdown.

Read about it here. It is way too much to wrap our heads around.

Fortunately there are so many communities and organisations stretching their helping hand for all those who are in need.

The Sharks rugby team is one of those organisations. They have joined with other rugby teams and organisations with their campaing #HandsOfHope to help rebuild the KZN province. Have a listen to how to be  a part of it:

Finally, we ended the week with another beautiful contribution from Hollywoodbets. They shared R100 000 with ECR's The Big Favour; making it possible for those who lost their businesses and homes during the unrest to get a little help.
