Unable to
hear the blaring sound of an alarm clock, Blakelyn Larkin educates social
media on how deaf people wake up on time every morning.
We’ve all been there – snoozing through multiple alarms every morning no matter how loud and annoying they may be. But, how does one make sure that they wake up on time every morning when they are unable to hear? In a new TikTok video, Blakelyn Larkin shows the world the tool that helps her wake up every morning.
Blakelyn Larkin has built up a massive following on the social networking app thanks to her candid approach of providing real insight into what it takes to navigate the world as someone who is deaf. Her latest clip is raking up hundreds of thousands of views as she explains what deaf people use instead of an alarm clock.

In the video, Blakelyn explains that she sets up an alarm every morning just like everyone else. However, the special alarm clock is attached to a vibrating plate. Blakelyn explains that the plate is placed in the bed and vibrates rather than playing a song or an annoying tune to wake people up.
Interestingly, others shared tips on how they replace noise prompts to help them navigate life as a deaf person.

One person shares that his neighbour’s lights would flicker to let them know when the doorbell rang while another added that they would use the vibration of a drum to wake up the deaf or hard of hearing at a YMCA sleepover camp.
Blakelyn is sharing these bite-sized nuggets of information to help bring a clearer understanding of how deaf people need to make small but effective changes to help navigate their world. She now has more than 185,000 followers, and her videos have been liked 3.8 million times.
