Darren chats to award-winning comic Robby Collins

Durban’s own Robby Collins just bagged Headliner of the Year at the 12th annual 'Comics' Choice Awards' – and of course, Darren Maule had to get the full scoop.

If there’s one thing Darren Maule loves more than a good laugh, it’s seeing his fellow comedians shine.

One of the biggest champions of local comedy, Darren couldn’t hide his excitement on East Coast Breakfast this morning.

He caught up with long-time friend and fellow comedian Robby Collins, fresh off his win as Headliner of the Year at the 12th annual 'Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards' in Johannesburg.

The event was MC'd by another Durban legend, Carvin Goldstone.

Now in its 12th year, the 'Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards' is Africa’s biggest celebration of comedic excellence, and this year, Durban talent dominated the winners’ list.

“There must be something in the water,” Darren joked, beaming with pride as he shared the news that three of this year’s biggest winners all hail from Durban.

The ever-hilarious Celeste Ntuli walked away with the prestigious Comedian of the Year title, while Sifiso Nene was honoured with the Winners’ Choice Award – as voted for by fellow comedians.

Durban audiences will remember Darren bringing Sifiso on stage at 'Darren Maule & Friends at the Globe' in 2023, and again at 'Kings & Queens of Comedy' back in 2018.

Celeste, meanwhile, has been a firm favourite on the Breakfast Show and has shared the stage with Darren on many occasions, bringing the house down every time.

This morning, Darren dialled up Robby for a celebratory catch-up, chatting about his epic win and how the night unfolded.
