Cosmopolitan reveals worst roommate stories of all time
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
Thinking about getting an apartment and moving in with your best friend? You may want to think again after reading these stories...
Living with your parents can get quite overwhelming sometimes. Yes, the free food and no financial expenses are great but we all need a little space, right?
Moving in with your 'bestie' may seem to be a good option at the time. Imagine all the partying and permanent slumber parties you two could have? But, imagine all the fights and unbearable habits that would be exposed during the stay?
We came across a list on Cosmopolitan of the worst possible things possible things that room mates have done:
- "She always used to leave the toilet unflushed after peeing." Sand P.
- "My roommate used to come out wearing my clothes. And um, we weren't the same size."
—Justine R. - "She asked to borrow my underwear because mine were "cuter." Um no. But thanks for the compliment." @PaiigeAnn
- "I let my roommate borrow my dishes and when she washed them, she dries them off with the towel she uses on her body after she showers!" Ariana L.
- "My roommate farts all night. In the morning, the room smells like a stink bomb exploded here." Priyanka V.
We've asked the team if they've ever had a roommate who was completely unbearable to live with and this what they had to say:
"I was the worst roommate! I was still a student at the time at Pretoria Tech and nothing would wake me up so I had to buy an alarm clock that sounded like a ship forge horn and that still wouldn't wake me up! My poor roommate would have to wake up before his call time while I still slept over my alarm", says Darren.

"My housemate - Dylan. Oh my gosh! He was convinced that I ate his burger (which I did) but I was not going to admit it and no one in the house was owning up, so it became a warfare. It started with him putting our windscreen wipers up and ended with him actually taking down all our tyres", added Keri.
"I don't have a single roommate, I have roommates because I live at home with my parents. I've never had a drink (in front of my dad) and I actually hid a 6-pack of beer under the duvet when I'm watching football with the lights switched off", says Sky.
