China just unleashed an AI that doesn’t need you

Stop everything you’re doing, because China just unleashed an AI agent that can do everything for you – and it doesn’t need your help

Alright, folks, hold onto your neural networks because China just flipped the AI game upside down. Meet Manus, the world’s first fully autonomous AI agent – no human input required.
That’s right. It doesn’t need prompts, commands, or even the occasional “Hey, are you still there?” to operate.
Since it’s launch on March 6, this brainchild of Chinese software engineers is sending shockwaves through the AI community.
Unlike OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, or Elon Musk’s Grok (which all rely on human guidance), Manus is designed to think and act entirely on its own.
Picture this: instead of asking a chatbot to find an apartment and getting a list of search results you still have to filter through, Manus takes the wheel.
It cross-references crime rates, weather patterns, rental market trends, and probably even whether your future neighbour plays the trumpet at 2 am.
By the time it gets back to you, it’s not just offering you options – it’s handing you the optimal choice, backed by data you didn’t even think to ask for.
Unlike traditional AI systems that rely on a single neural network, Manus operates like an executive manager, overseeing multiple specialised sub-agents.
According to Forbes, when given a complex task, it breaks it down into manageable parts, assigns them to the right sub-agents, and monitors progress like a micromanaging supervisor, without the awkward small talk though.
The best part of all? It runs silently in the background and only notifies you when your results are ready.
That’s like having an employee that never takes coffee breaks, doesn’t need deadlines, and doesn’t mess up because they were “having a long day”.
What can Manus actually do?
Manus is literally a multitasking monster. It can do almost anything for you, including:
Hiring and recruitment
Give it a zip file of resumes, and instead of just ranking candidates, it analyses their skills, cross-references job market trends, and hands you a fully optimised hiring decision in an Excel sheet. (Good luck to HR teams.)
Software development
Need a website? Manus can build it from scratch, gather data, and troubleshoot hosting issues – all without waiting for you to say “fix it”.
Automating Tedious Tasks
Filling out forms, sending emails, writing reports – Manus does it all without batting a digital eyelash.
Check out this video released by Manus AI, testing out some of its capabilities:
This is a massive leap for AI, but it’s also a kinda unnerving. If AI can now operate without human supervision, what happens to accountability?
If Manus makes a mistake or a questionable decision, who takes responsibility?
Then, of course, there’s the big question: What does this mean for jobs?
If AI can independently handle recruitment, software development, and research, where does that leave human workers?
For AI developers, Manus is the dream. For everyone else though? Maybe it’s time we start thinking about finding new skill sets.
