Chatsworth resident Jeanine Pillay killed in senseless crime

A local woman was killed on her way to work.
It was reported that Jeanine Pillay, a Chatsworth local, was shot and killed on her way to work on Friday 25 February.
According to iOL, Jeanine Pillay was 29-years-old and someone who wanted a "better life for her family".

Reports say that she was killed during an incident in Welbedacht, Chatsworth.
Jenaine was traveling with co-workers when the incident took place.
She was a creditors clerk from Unit 9 in Chatsworth and died at the scene of the crime.
iOL spoke to her cousin, Ronald Govender, who said that residents from the area called the police and ambulance services for help.
The company was having their weekend stock take because their financial year-end was drawing near. They arranged for some employees to be picked up from their homes. The company’s driver picked Jeanine up just after 4am. They drove to Welbedacht to fetch two other workers, a woman and a man. They then drove to another area in Welbedacht to fetch the man. As the man got into the back of the bakkie, a single shot was fired at the windscreen.- Ronald Govender
The driver was hysterical. The bakkie rolled over the man as he was trying to run off and it then came to a standstill. When the vehicle stopped, three robbers appeared. They pulled the driver and the woman out of the vehicle. They were both assaulted and robbed of their cellphones and jewellery. The robbers then fled. The driver and the woman were in shock. When the driver checked on Jeanine, he saw that she was shot and had died. Their colleague who was knocked (over) was badly injured.- Ronald Govender

The murder is being investigated by the Chatsworth police.

Crime continues to be a major problem in South Africa and, in particular, KwaZulu-Natal. In July 2022, it was reported that KZN was the murder capital of South Africa.
A few weeks ago, a 2 children were killed in Chatsworth. It was later reported that their mom passed away in hospital. KwaZulu-Natal police say three gunmen entered their house in Welbedacht East earlier this month and opened fire on the family.

Last weekend, another woman was killed in a drive-by shooting in Mobeni Heights.
