Buckle up, KZN! Cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms weather forecast

KwaZulu-Natal is famed for our wacky weather predictions. In an interesting turn of events, we have kickstarted our summer season with heavy downpours.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of severe thunderstorms in a number of provinces, with cloudy to cool and warm conditions expected elsewhere on Tuesday.
ECR NewsWatch share that eThekwini, uMgungundlovu, uMkhanyakude, uThukela, and King Cetshwayo have been told to brace for level 2 severe thunderstorms.
SAWS is expecting localised damage to infrastructure, settlements, livelihood, and livestock, as well as localised injuries due to lightning and flooding.

Here is the expected weather for our province:
KwaZulu-Natal is expected to be cloudy and cool yet warm in the north-east. The predicted widespread showers and thundershowers will be scattered in the south and north of the province.
TIPS: Safety tips for driving in the rain
Grab an umbrella and even grab some sunscreen. When leaving the house in KZN, expect the unexpected.
Here are some safety tips for driving in the rain:
- Increase your safe following distance by an extra 5 – 6 seconds.
- Reduce your speed. This will help you navigate large water puddles and potential hidden debris on flooded roadways.
- Make sure that your headlights are switched on.
- Take note of trees, power lines, and street poles whilst driving.
- Be cautious of any pedestrians, cyclists, motorcycles, and animals whilst driving in such harsh weather conditions.
- If you can, delay your trip until the heavy rainfall subsides.
- Buckle up!
- Drive only when you need to. Otherwise, please stay at home.
