The week kicked off with a bang as our Ticket Fairy and Princess Perfect, Carmen Reddy, celebrated her birthday. Little did she know, Darren Maule had a huge surprise up his sleeve.

As part of the Kelly-Maule birthday tradition, Darren’s family came together to create the ultimate gift. He presented Carmen with the perfect birthday hamper, packed with all her favourite things – from jewellery and champagne to a variety of accessories. It was a gift made with love and thoughtfulness.

But Sky Tshabalala didn’t forget Carmen’s big day either. He worked tirelessly over the weekend to put together the perfect Betway bet slip for her, only for one match to stand in the way of his victory. Eish… better luck next time.

On top of that, Sky took the opportunity to discuss Carmen’s WhatsApp etiquette. Why send 10 separate messages when it could be one? It turns out, Carmen isn’t the only one guilty of this, and KZN chimed in with their own WhatsApp annoyances.

From blue ticks to endless voice notes, it seems we all have a WhatsApp habit that drives us crazy!

Tristan Simmons aced Darren Maule’s Quick Quiz, winning himself R1,000 in cash to splurge on himself – and maybe his family!

Load shedding made a brief return, and, as always, it's the part of South African life we could all do without.

Darren, Sky, and Carmen got into the conversation after Darren forgot to re-download the EskomSePush app – despite reminding the team to do so! The team then asked KZN what they’d forgotten about load shedding, and the responses were hilarious.

From battling those pesky mosquitoes that seem to come out in full force to getting back into the groove of planning around the unpredictable schedules, KZN’s tips were both relatable and funny.

Listen in for some of their best advice.

In another instalment of Darren’s Quick Quiz, Lionel Murisi scored a perfect 100% to win R1,000! Wow – KZN was on a roll this week.

Wednesday: February 26, 2025

Wednesday morning got off to a bit of a rough start for Sky. After Carmen’s extravagant birthday surprise on Monday, he couldn’t help but feel a little down seeing all the love she received. With his own birthday falling on December 31 – the busiest day of the year – he was feeling a tad envious.

After missing out on the birthday love in 2024, he decided it was time to address the situation. In fact, he even considered changing his birthday just to get some attention from his friends and family.

But, let’s be real, December 31 is chaotic for everyone, and it’s hard to squeeze in birthday wishes. Luckily, KZN shared his thoughts, with many joking about moving their birthdays to a less hectic day.

Darren Maule’s Quick Quiz invited Keola Govender to take on the challenge, which wasn’t challenging enough. She hit a perfect score, and won R1,000!

We really need to make these questions harder...

Sky kicked off the show with an intriguing DM he received from Jeandre Michau, the head of sports at Port Edward Primary. Jeandre shared the story of the school’s crumbling cricket pitch, which had been in use for 14 years. He had a big favour to ask – could the team help upgrade the pitch, giving the young sports enthusiasts a better playing surface?

He even took the initiative to gather quotes for a new pitch, with the most affordable option coming in at R40,000.

Jeandre joined East Coast Breakfast to share his story and the incredible work of East Coast Radio in gifting the school a new cricket pitch. The new pitch was installed on Monday, 24 February 2025, just in time for the cricket season.

To celebrate, the Breakfast Squad planned a trip to Port Edward on Friday, February 28, 2025, to unveil the new pitch and kick off the season with excitement.

Thursday marked the launch of the SA Global Explorer with FNB Private, and our first destination was South Korea. We connected with Elzia Koekemoer, a South African living in South Korea, to hear about her experiences, insights into the local culture, and how she’s adjusting to life in the country.

This is what she had to say.

Makaela Lahner took on Darren Maule’s Quick Quiz for a chance to win her share of R1,000! Sadly, Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss SA in 2019, the currency of South Korea is Won (not Win), and the Investec South African Open takes place in Durban. Oops…next time.

Lucky for her, Carmen Reddy, aka the "Ticket Fairy", had two tickets to give away for Darren Maule’s upcoming comedy show at Sibaya Casino this upcoming Saturday.

The Breakfast Squad woke up on the South Coast on Friday, just in time to unveil the brand-new cricket pitch at Port Edward Primary School – all thanks to the Big Favour! The students at Port Edward Primary were absolutely incredible, sharing their infectious energy with the team throughout the day.

The school choir graced us with stunning performances, filling the hall and the airwaves with sweet melodies that we're sure gave everyone goosebumps.

Darren, Sky, and Carmen also sat down with Jeandre Michau, the school's head of sports, to hear his heartfelt story and the significance of this gift for him and his students. It was clear how much this meant to Jeandre, especially when the school was surprised with a new cricket pitch in response to his request.

After the show, the team headed to the field to officially open the pitch and play a bit of T5 cricket with the students and teachers. It was legends vs the future – and if the game was any indication, the future of cricket is looking incredibly bright for these young athletes.

It was a truly unforgettable day, marking the start of something amazing for the kids of Port Edward Primary School.

Check out all the incredible moments below:

Sphume Dlamini wrapped up the week on a high note, scoring a perfect five out of five in Darren Maule's Quick Quiz.

While she nailed it, she had quite a bit of help – and by "help," we mean the brilliant kids at Port Edward Primary School who eagerly shouted out the answers before she could even get a word in. Talk about luck.

What a week. We celebrated birthdays, complained about load shedding (again), almost moved Sky’s birthday to a less inconvenient date, and helped give young cricketers a brand-new pitch. Oh, and KZN absolutely cleaned up on Darren Maule’s Quick Quiz (seriously, do we need to make these questions harder, or are you guys just that smart?).

Next week, the Breakfast Squad is heading to Cape Town (don’t miss us too much), but don’t worry – Danny Guselli and Mike Vee are taking over to keep the chaos going!

Will they survive the early mornings? Will they crack under the pressure of KZN’s morning madness? There’s only one way to find out… tune in and keep the fun going.
