The Breakfast Wrap

If you missed a morning with East Coast Breakfast this week, don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. From wild stories to hot debates (and a few moments that made us question humanity), it’s been a rollercoaster of a week.

Whether you were stuck in traffic, spilling coffee on your shirt, or just too busy hitting snooze, here’s a quick recap of everything you should have been talking about.

Monday: February 17, 2025

Monday morning kicked off with drama in the Tshabalala household. Over the weekend, Sky Tshabalala’s eldest son dropped a bomb regarding his younger brother. Out of the blue, without reason, his son exposed his brother for having a girlfriend. Oooooh… juicy!

This was a shock to Sky, but also proved that snitching can be hereditary. So Darren, Sky, and Carmen were curious to know: have your siblings =ever snitched on you?

In true KZN fashion, the stories were hilarious. Take a listen below.

Kayleigh Collins took a shot at Darren Maule’s Quick Quiz for R2,000, and scored a 4 out of 5. Sooo close, but a Stoat has no wings. Better luck next time.

Tuesday: February 18, 2025

On Tuesday morning, Carmen decided it was time to call out a friend.

She shared that a family friend borrowed money from her back in January but was spotted living it up on Instagram over the weekend. How dare she?

Carmen was unsure how to handle the situation – should she ask for her money back, or just let it go? To help her navigate this tricky dilemma, Darren, Sky, and Carmen reached out to Ashton Naidoo from Mooney Ford Attorneys for some expert advice.

Take a listen to some of the great advice KZN had to offer.

Zama Mhlamvu was the lucky contender who got a chance to play Darren Maule’s Quick Quiz for R3,000. Unfortunately, she was tricked by the final question – Loftus Versfeld Stadium has way more seats than Orlando Stadium. Nice try though.

Wednesday: February 19, 2025

On Wednesday morning, the buzz was all about the upcoming Budget Speech, which, of course, didn’t quite go as planned. The team spent time debating which item they wished would stay the same price forever.

Carmen even headed to Gateway to ask shoppers what item they’d want to be inflation-proof.

KZN shared their thoughts, and while the obvious things like bread and fuel topped the list, Roman was outraged by the price of speckled eggs. One mum from Queensburgh couldn’t believe the price of Pritt – if only it could just stick to the same price.

What’s one item you wish would never go up in price?

Darren Maule’s Quick Quiz was played by Sihle Somana, who scored a perfect score and took home R4,000! What a wow! Although – the questions were super easy.

Thursday: February 20, 2025

Thursday morning was a bit different. Carmen was in a very bad mood and she couldn’t help but vent. She told us about her new Instagram-influencer neighbour and how she’s driving Carmen insane with constant noise.

Turns out she wasn’t alone – KZN has a lot of angry neighbours, with some bizarre stories crawling out of the woodwork.

What shocked everyone though, is that Darren Maule's neighbour also had a complaint – it has to do with chicken wings, a yellow-billed kite, and bagpipes. We all knew Darren was weird, but bagpipes? Come on bro – you’re not beating the allegations.

Take a listen to the bizarre story.

Darren Maule’s Quick Quiz was back at R1,000, and Janelle Naidoo took a shot in the dark and scored 100%! She took home R1,000 – and thankfully the budget speech was postponed, so she can still enjoy a comfy 15% VAT on her spending spree!

Friday: February 21, 2025

After a week of drama, chaos and disorder; we decided to take a chill pill.

Lebo M – the iconic producer, composer and voice behind 'The Lion King' opening song – joined Darren, Sky and Carmen to chat about his upcoming live concert at the GrandWest Arena in Cape Town alongside Hans Zimmer!

Sherezade Antonio got his chance to take on Darren Maule’s Quick Quiz for R1,000! Her excitement made her lose track of time, and she only got through four questions. Eish – close, but not close enough.

And just like that, another wild week on East Coast Breakfast comes to an end! From snitching siblings to nosy neighbours, money mishaps, and budget blues, KZN brought the drama, the laughs, and the most bizarre stories (seriously, Darren… bagpipes?!).

For more of what happened on East Coast Breakfast, tune into Best of Breakfast between 5 pm and 6 pm this weekend. Don’t get too comfortable though – next week promises even more chaos, fun, and hyperlocal entertainment you won’t want to miss.
