Jean de Villiers traded his SuperSport pundit role to become a local hero in Paarl.
A massive hero in Paarl came in the form of a former Springbok captain.
According to IOL, former Springbok centre Jean de Villiers was honoured on social media after he chased down a shoplifter.

De Villiers was at The Boer and Butcher when he saw a man pocketing sweets and then leaving the shop without paying.
He then used his jet shoes from his rugby glory days to chase this man down.
De Villiers then went onto social media to get a soundbite from a local who saw it all play out - as it was priceless! The audio is in Afrikaans but the guy reckons the Bok must come out of retirement.
The store owner, Edu Hanekom, commented that De Villiers and his wife, Marlie, are regular customers at the store.
They were waiting to pay for their goods when De Villiers saw this man helping himself to sweets.

When he didn't pay for the sweets, De Villiers followed him out of the store and then started to chase after him.
The thief was brought back to the store and handed over to a security guard.

The store owner was grateful to Jean and the fact that the Springbok still has some speed in him.
"We are very grateful for Jean’s actions. It was quite a thing when a former Springbok captain arrived with a thief,” says Edu.
