People make all kinds of New Year’s Resolutions, but some people just want to start the year with a clean slate, whether that is by settling last year’s school account or by paying the school fees for the coming year.
Listen to part one of this incredible story of Videsh, which Sagie Govender shared with the Big Favour:
Name: Emmanuel
Last name: Shongwe
Sponsor: Annabelle da Costa- Director at DaCosta Incorporated
Story:
I'm Bongane Shongwe, a married father of 3 (2 boys and one girl).
This year has been one of the most - if not the most gruesome year our family has ever experienced financially.

The toll it has taken on us as parents is evident, I fear that it will affect my kids mentally and academically.
On the other hand my son is at Kloof High School doing Grade 11, Grade 12 in 2023. His account has also been handed over as we are owing R 25,000.00.
I am working for PRASA as a Technician, while my wife is establishing her Agro-processing entrepreneurship journey as an alternative to generating income.

She was laid off mid-July this year, since then she has been constantly job searching and hopefully a new job is on its way.
Since Covid hit, our salary decreased, overtime benefits also decreased which resulted in our household income reducing drastically, creating a negative impact.
We ended up under debt review, struggling to keep up with payments.
Our kids have also been proactive in trying to better our situation.
Our daughter is preparing to start drawing and selling birthday cards, Good Luck cards and more to her friends.

Our son on the other hand is a music producer with a growing YouTube channel showcasing and selling his beats.
Sometimes in tough months, we have looked at him for help with buying lunch for school etc.
As their parents we acknowledge that it is our core responsibility to provide a conducive financially stable environment as such we do not believe in being a burden to other people.
