Bafana Bafana need a foreign coach
Updated | By Benedict Ngwenya
Does it matter whether the next Bafana Bafana coach is a South African or not?
The South African national football team is yet to announce the new coach after sacking Ephraim Mashaba and so many names have been linked with the vacant post.
The last time Bafana Bafana had a foreign coach was 2010 when Carlos Alberto Parreira was in charge of the team in the World Cup it hosted.
Ever since, we've had three local coaches who have failed to thrive in big tournaments like World Cup qualifiers and Africa Cup of Nations.
At the moment, the only local coach we can go for is Gavin Hunt who is not interested. The other option would be Pitso Mosimane but I don't see him leaving Mamelodi Sundowns. We have to look elsewhere.
French mentor, Herve Renard has won the Africa Cup of Nations with both Zambia and Ivory Coast. We must do away with this mentality that only a local coach can turn our fortunes around.
In order to compete on a global and continental scale we need someone who understands modern football philosophies.
The last time Bafana Bafana conquered the continent 21 years ago it was coached by a local but how many local coaches have managed the same feat ever since?
Let's cast the net wide to get the best coach for the team.
