Are changes coming to how alcohol is taxed in South Africa?
A potential win for the alcohol industry...
The Beer Association of South Africa (BASA) is calling for change.
According to Business Tech, BASA has indeed submitted a proposal to SARS on changing how beer and alcoholic beverages are taxed in SA.

Alcohol tax increases every year as part of the 'Sin Tax'. The 2022 Budget saw the price of a 340ml can of beer increase by 11 cents.
The industry has long been pushing for a change in how taxes are calculated.
BASA has proposed the following:
- Beer and other alcoholic goods that have lower levels of alcohol by volume (ABV) are taxed proportionally lower than products with higher ABV.
- That the excise duties period of 30/60 days on all goods under the Excisable Alcohol Products be applied uniformly.
