The car that lets you fly over traffic
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
The future is here. Alef just shared footage of their flying car actually flying!

Are you tired of sitting in traffic? Well soon, you could fly right over it in Alef’s all-electric Model A. The real-life flying car that’s now been successfully tested in a city environment.
At first glance, it looks like a sleek electric vehicle. However, hidden propellers in the front and back let it lift off vertically – no runway required.
In a new test, the car drove through California streets before taking off and soaring over another vehicle, like something straight out of 'Back to the Future'.

“This is an important proof of technology,” says Jim Dukhovny, CEO of Alef. “We hope it’s our Wright Brothers moment, showing that new transportation is possible.”
On the road, the car has 320km range and speeds are limited to 40–55km/hr (so it’s quite slow).
In the air, the car has a 175km flying range, cruising at 175km/hr.
It’s also easy to use, according to Dukhovny. Learning to fly takes just 15 minutes (yes, really), and it’s similar to flying a drone.
The Model A is available for pre-order at whopping £235,000 (R5.4 million), but Alef hopes to bring costs down to £25,000 (R500 000) in the future.
Flying cars sound exciting, but are we really prepared for air traffic, mid-flight breakdowns, or bad drivers suddenly taking to the skies?
Well – ready or not, the future of transport is taking off. Buckle up!
