A good night’s rest brings a day of content. Waking up early can be hard - take it from our East Coast Breakfast team.

From waking up at the crack of dawn to being out and about in “the middle of the night”, being an early-riser is not for the faint-hearted. Some days you may ache and desire to stay in bed for just a few more minutes, but having a good night’s rest can be a game-changer.

Here are East Coast Radio’s top five tips for a good night's rest:

1. Turn off the blue light

You, yes, you, the one reading this. The 10-minute limit you promise yourself can easily become an hour. Your phone can be a slippery slope that fails to allow your brain to lull into a sleepy kind of mood.

2. Baths are great at relieving stress

Catch some Zzz with ease. Research suggests a warm bath or shower an hour or two before bedtime can help you unwind and fall asleep faster.

3. Empty your bladder

The reason you may be tossing and turning is because you need to use the loo. Be prepared by heading to the loo beforehand.

4. Don’t turn your bed into a home office

Keep work out of the bed. Doing a few minutes of work can change the vibe and have you feeling anxious.

5. 18.3 degrees Celsius is just right

The optimum sleeping temperature is 18.3 degrees Celsius according to Sleep Foundation. It can get heated in the 031, so a fan or aircon can go a long way.

It’s all about habit. Once you get a routine going that works for you, the sunrise will be a little brighter, the coffee will taste a little better, and the headaches will fade away.

We hope that these tips will fast-track your journey to becoming the best version of yourself in the AM.

Good night, sleep tight.
