Another high-fashion flop that has raised eyebrows
High-fashion comes at a price. It is usual for the powerhouse brand, Balenciaga, to come out with a jaw-dropping fashion statement, but very rarely is it an everyday object that you can buy when going stationery shopping.
Recently, a tape bracelet has sparked controversy online and many users claim that they may have “gone too far".

Balenciaga faces criticism over the sale of its 'Gaffer Bangle', a clear plastic bracelet tape priced at over R82,000. This oversized transparent tape roll, adorned with a 'Balenciaga Adhesive — Made in France' label, has drawn attention for its resemblance to ordinary tape despite its extravagant cost.

What’s sad is that #Balenciaga actually designed a bracelet that looks like a roll of tape and they’re charging $4.000 for it. What’s even more sad is that stupid people are actually going to buy it smh (shaking my head).- X user
Here are some more reactions from online users:
- “Balenciaga may be the most current brand marketing its luxury goods with the “aesthetics” of poverty and suffering – but it’s not the only one.”
- “This is the hottest accessory for spring, the Balenciaga tape bracelet. Will you be wearing it and showing all of your friends how fashionable (and rich) you are?”
- “Yeah, Balenciaga is definitely laughing their minds off managing to convince people to by a tape bracelet.”
