1. North Korean gymnast flees to South Korea by pole vaulting over border

A gymnast from North Korea managed to successfully flee the country by pole vaulting over a 3.7-metre fence into South Korea. The 20-something-year-old male managed to overcome one of the world’s most heavily guarded borders and mounds of barbed wire, making it to the other side, without even triggering any sensors. 

2. Construction of new uMhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve boardwalk underway

Building of the new uMhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve boardwalk officially began earlier this month. This community-focused and funded project is designed to enhance the area’s environmental integrity and provide a lovely ‘walk-in-the-trees’ experience for local citizens and tourists to enjoy. The project’s initial funding of R345,000 was raised by community-minded stakeholders, businesses, and contributors. This amount will see the first 81m of the 1km long, 1,8m wide boardwalk built by mid-December.

3. Erasmus and Kolisi win Hollard Sports Industry Awards

Rassie Erasmus and Siya Kolisi walked away with another set of awards on Thursday,  a little more than a year after the 2019 World Cup victory. SA Rugby’s Director of Rugby and the Springbok captain were honoured at the Hollard Sports Industry Awards for 2020, which was staged digitally this year. The ceremony takes place annually to celebrate achieving personalities and businesses in the South African sports

4. Will.I.Am apologises to SA Gqom DJ

American music producer Will.I.Am has issued an apology to Durban-born gqom pioneer DJ Lag for 'getting credit information wrong' on the single, 'Culture', which sampled a beat and the video concept from the SA DJ. The apology by the Black Eyed Peas frontman came after social media users attacked DJ Megan Ryte following the release of the official video for her newly-released single featuring ASAP Ferg and Will.I.Am.
