Yarn face makeup trend: A different kind of ASMR

Yarn face makeup trend: A different kind of ASMR

This is a real thing, and we have no words...

We recently covered the concept of ASMR on International ASMR Day, highlighting its rise in popularity, especially in helping people manage their anxiety and mental wellness.

While ASMR has become a popular trend on social media, it's not for everyone.

Now, another unconventional trend is making waves online, pushing the boundaries of traditional beauty norms and diving headfirst into the whimsical.

Enter the yarn makeup trend.

Yes, you read that right. Makeup artists are covering their faces with actual yarn before applying a full face of makeup on top.

Watch the video below to see how a self-taught makeup artist brings this quirky look to life on Instagram.

Deborah Campbell, a self-taught makeup artist and content creator from the US (who also bears a striking resemblance to Megan Thee Stallion), credited Canadian special effects artist Anna Murphy as the originator of the yarn makeup trend.

While many online have praised Murphy for kickstarting the trend, a comment on her social media suggests there may be more to the story.

UK-based makeup artist Lee Chapman commented on Murphy’s video: "Can you please check your dm’s? I feel my concept has been stolen and that I haven’t been credited for this as inspiration. Other artists are now recreating your version as if you were the artist who inspired this concept! It's so sad that this happens."

Although Champman may have used yarn in one of his earlier makeup looks, it was Anna who transformed the idea into a full-blown trend.

While this trend has taken the makeup world by storm, it’s the removal process that truly gives us ASMR vibes.

There’s something oddly satisfying about watching Campbell peel off her yarn-covered makeup – it’s soothing, unexpected, and strangely mesmerising.
