Could this be a joke?

We're all about the weird and wacky, even if that means trying unconventional food combinations

Recently, Danny Guselli went so far as to try a Spring Onion Latte. And guess what? It tasted just as unfortunate as it sounds. Let's just say it's not for everyone...

Now, keeping with the theme of the bold onion, we highlight a recipe from FoodBeast that wouldn't necessarily make it on the list of top choices when going out for ice-cream.

FoodBeast is a content creator that publishes recipes for fun food combinations. We scrolled across them making 'Onion Ice-Cream' and were surprised by their reactions.

From the looks of the video, the team at FoodBeast was more disgusted by the end product than you might think. Mixing this strongly flavoured vegetable with cream and sugar doesn't sound like a wise choice.

But that's how flavours such as the famous 'Umami' flavour came to be.

Here's the recipe if you want to try it out.

Ingredients:

- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
- 2 small sweet onions, diced
- 500g food-grade dry ice
- Salt to taste

Steps:

Dice your onions and slowly caramelise over low heat.
Make your ice cream base by blending heavy cream and sweetened condensed milk until thick and creamy.
Add the base to the bowl of a stand mixer and churn at a low speed.
Break your dry ice into a fine powder, then slowly drop the powder into your stand mixer, one spoonful at a time.

GO SLOW HERE!
Once all of the dry ice sublimates, you can add the next spoonful. Ensure no chunks remain; the ice cream is safe to eat once all the dry ice dissipates.
You can add your onions and increase the speed as the ice cream starts to freeze.
Once the ice cream has thickened to a soft-serve consistency, you can serve it as is or put it in the freezer to chill for a few hours.
We chose to pipe ours into a hollowed-out onion to serve, but a regular bowl also works!
