There are many things that we can be lighthearted about as a nation, and until recently, it seemed that as South Africans when things got serious, we turned to humour for relief.

In a recent video shared on social media, we noticed an election poster on a light pole somewhere in South Africa.

But it wasn't green and black or black, green, and gold, nor was it red or blue. It was white and it featured an image of the iconic English singer, Rick Astley

The 1980s hitmaker is still very popular in South Africa, so it is no surprise that someone would still take his lyrics literally.

Amidst all the nervousness surrounding the aftermath of the South African elections, we have to say that this lighthearted video leaves us hopeful.

Regarding our country's political stature, we know we can overcome anything with our people and their ability to laugh through the discomfort.
