UCT student works as a 'gaatjie' or taxi marshal for fun

This is not something many people see in South Africa, but it has the mark of approval from online users.

A video that endorsed our diverse and lighthearted approach to everything as South Africans has also melted the hearts of some social media users.

Mandisa, a lifestyle and food blogger from Cape Town, posted a video showing a young white man playing a 'gaatjie' or taxi marshal.

It is humbling and wholesome because it depicts our rainbow nation in a certain way, but it's still unusual.

The video shows the young man, identified in the comments section as Ben Jackson from the University of Cape Town, guiding passengers into the Quantum taxi and then getting in and closing the door.

Raphael Tyler Lyson: "That’s Ben Jackson. I play ⚽️with him at Clifton. He's a quality player and a very humble guy."

It came so naturally to him like he had been doing this for some time. The creator then revealed that Ben is a politics student at UCT and does this for fun.

Mandisa: "He’s a politics student at UCT 😂he does this job for fun!"

But after Mandisa made this comment, another commentator, Jordan Gallant, confirmed that this was Ben and his legitimate side hustle.

Jordan Gallant: "I met him through his gf. This is his legit side hustle. He does it all the time. just likes the vibes."

It seems Ben has become somewhat of the heartthrob 'gaatjie' in Cape Town.

"Guys if he was my gaatjie I would only use taxi"
