A man was allegedly arguing with a young boy at the Engen petrol station on Voortrekker Road in Malmesbury, Western Cape, when he died.

The incident is said to have occurred on Saturday and was captured by CCTV cameras at the petrol station. The motive is unknown. However, the Malmesbury police have opened up a case of culpable homicide.

The 58-year-old man, who was well-known as a 'street person' in the area, is said to have been arguing with a 13-year-old boy. People have been outraged by the video footage shared on social media

The video shows the man, Gert Coetzee, standing close to a stationary SPAR delivery truck. The boy strikes out his arm at the man and then walks off. Then the video pauses, and we see the boy kick the man.

The man falls back instantly next to the truck's wheels, and simultaneously, the truck starts moving.

Police Spokesperson, Capt. Frederick van Wyk, said: "The man was fatally injured. A thirteen-year-old boy was arrested and later released into the care of his parents."

According to Netwerk24, the boy will appear in the Malmesbury Magistrate's Court once he is charged.
