HorsegiirL at the Brit Awards: Who is she?

This was a case of "masked singer" without the singing...

There’s a certain allure to maintaining anonymity in the entertainment world. It creates an air of mystery, keeping audiences intrigued and guessing.
While some are eager to uncover the true identity of these figures, others admire the artist's choice to remain anonymous, allowing their work and persona to speak for themselves.
We've seen this with the American music producer and DJ, Marshmello, whose oversized marshmallow head captivated music lovers and left them questioning his identity (his real name is Christopher Comstock, in case you were wondering).
There's the popular TV show 'The Masked Singer', where viewers – and even the judges – are kept on edge as they try to identify the singers hidden behind elaborate costumes.
Now, there's a new figure on the scene, or rather, a new "stallion" in the barn.
Enter HorsegiirL, who caused quite a stir when she showed up at the Brit Awards last
Saturday, sporting a well-crafted horse mask.

There’s no horsing around with this case of hidden identity. Initially, we were all a bit perplexed, wondering what exactly was going on, and it turns out, we weren’t alone.
The Brit Awards, which saw Charli XCX, Sam Fender, JADE, and Ezra Collective take home the biggest honors, was already making waves for its eye-catching outfits, including those from Sabrina Carpenter and Teddy Swims. But it was a woman dressed as a horse who truly stole the spotlight.
It was soon revealed that HorsegiirL is actually a Berlin-based DJ, and her horse mask is part of her carefully crafted disguise to maintain anonymity.
According to the Independent, "HorsegiirL rose to fame in 2023 after her track, 'My Barn My Rules', went viral on TikTok, where she currently has over 140,000 followers. She describes herself as 'half-horse, half-human'."
Fully immersed in her character, HorsegiirL feels a deep connection to her identity as a horse. After returning from a holiday in Ecuador, she shared her thoughts on how this persona shapes her life.
I recently returned from a holiday in Ecuador where I did a lot of stargazing and grazing. We are on this earth with very limited time. Some humans I’ve met believe rest is only necessary to be more productive again. To me, rest is the time I spend really consciously existing in the here and now. Reflecting, recharging, and realigning but also putting into perspective how fragile and beautiful life is once you stop taking it all in.- HorsegiirL
