When we harness our innate nature to celebrate 'Ubuntu', something special happens... we connect in the most precious way.

A woman who brought a community of social media users together was brave enough to share her ethnicity with fellow Durbanites who were intrigued by her accent

A young woman named 'The Reel Deels' on TikTok often shares fun and miscellaneous content on her page. As the name suggests, she shares deals she finds with her audience and shares videos for fun.

She recently caused a stir on social media when people were surprised by her accent. The young woman looks white but speaks in a unique way that doesn't quite fit into the niche of white accents.

She posted a video of her favourite sweatshirt and asked others on social media if they could resonate with her. Considering her sweatshirt has 52 stains, peeling vinyl, and some intentional tears, she was trying to find others who could understand the feeling of getting home, showering, and putting on your favourite sweatshirt.

The above video grabbed the attention of people who commented on her accent.

  • "I’m hearing Indian, but my eyes deceive me"
  • "I’m hearing Phoenix but seeing Ballito"
  • "I'm hearing Mischka but I'm seeing Susan"
  • "I'm hearing Verulam but seeing Ballito."

Watch as she responds to some of the comments with so much respect. She shares a bit about her heritage and it was wonderful to see how respectful people were.
