Driver accidentally lets balloons loose in Umhlanga
Updated | By Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
The sight of balloons always brings a bit of whimsy and delight to our day...

The things we see in our city can often be mesmerising, with a touch of intrigue. This time, it was pastel-coloured balloons floating through the Umhlanga area that left many people feeling all the feels.
Gerzal, who shared the video, was driving behind a convertible when she noticed the passenger holding onto a balloon arrangement.
The balloons didn’t seem very secure, with the passenger gripping them as tightly as possible. But then, whether by accident or as a spontaneous moment of magic, they were released – floating into the sky as motorists looked on.
Balloon arrangements like these aren't cheap and judging by the look of things, much like those who invest in elaborate backdrops, this person really wanted to take them home.
A balloon backdrop can cost between R1,000 and R2,000 upwards, so we cannot blame them for wanting to enjoy their money's worth.
People who spotted the balloons this weekend were eager to know where they had come from.
"And that white van on the oncoming lane had kids in the back, who then jumped off to run across the road for the balloons."
"I was in that oncoming traffic and wondered where the balloons came from."
"@Shivani Naidoo now you know the story behind the balloons we saw."

As magical as the sight was, it's important to remember that balloons pose a danger to marine life.
Whenever possible, dispose of balloons responsibly – or better yet, opt for biodegradable alternatives.
