With immense pride and joy, we watched Dylan Naidoo lift the SA Open trophy on Saturday, March 1, marking his victory in the 2025 SA Open.

Naidoo’s historic win is a moment of celebration for all South Africans, as he becomes the first golfer of colour to claim victory in South Africa’s national Open.

According to IOL, after a weather delay left the golf course waterlogged following 54 holes, Naidoo and England’s Laurie Canter – tied at 14-under par – went head-to-head in a playoff on the 18th hole.

Danny Guselli had the chance to chat with Naidoo about his incredible victory, and it was truly heartwarming to witness the humility of the newly crowned champion.

When asked how he felt about the win, Naidoo reflected: " Yeah, it's a little surreal for you to tell me that, you know, we work so hard in golf, and golf is just so different to other sports.

"If you're the best player, it doesn't mean you win every week. You know, in other sports, when it's track and field, and people line up on the 100m line, you kind of have a decent idea of who's going to win before you start and, and golf is just not that way.

"You lose so, so, so much more than you win."

When Danny asked about the challenges posed by the rain, Naidoo admitted he had never seen anything like it before, describing how "rivers were running through the golf course" last Wednesday.

Despite the chaos, teamwork made all the difference, helping them turn things around over the weekend.

Beyond his passion for the game, one thing stood out in Naidoo’s interview – his sheer joy for golf.

Even now, his victory feels surreal, but there's no denying the significance of his achievement.
