Adulting at the office is about fighting for meeting rooms
Updated | By Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
Just as Danny Guselli talks about our musically inspired meeting room names, we bring an office complaint to the forefront...

East Coast Radio House boasts an inspiring office layout. One of the coolest features is that our boardrooms are named after musical legends.
We draw inspiration from iconic artists as we gather in rooms named after the likes of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Johnny Clegg, Holly Rey, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston.
Meeting rooms can often feel intimidating, depending on the people involved and the purpose of the meeting.
But with room names like these, we’re able to inject a bit of lightheartedness into our conversations.
For instance, it’s not unusual to hear a colleague casually mention they’ll meet in Johnny Clegg or ask if anyone is using Holly Rey.
While it might seem strange to outsiders, for us, it’s just part of our everyday routine.
The meeting room names are certainly inspiring, but the issue of colleagues "stealing" booked meeting rooms is a common office dilemma that resonates with workplaces across South Africa.
A TikToker recently shared his thoughts on the etiquette of meeting room bookings, politely pointing out that it’s not acceptable to hold a meeting in a room that has already been reserved.

If you know, you know! If not, ask the person responsible for booking
meeting rooms in your office – they can probably tell you a story or two.

Here's what some people had to say:
"What’s worse is when they look at you like you are the problem and bothering them."
"Thank you!!! Louder for the ones at the back!!"
"Awkwardly saying with a smile, 'I booked this room.'"
"Then they say 'oh, did you book the room?' No sh*to Sherlock, I'm just standing at the door with my laptop for fun."
"I can’t believe I am at that age where I fight for meeting rooms."
