5 fun World Health Day ideas to do with colleagues
Updated | By Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
Adding healthy practices to your workday can be contagious, inspiring your colleagues to adopt a healthier lifestyle too.

World Health Day reminds us of why it's important to stay active, eat healthy, and focus on our well-being. But not everyone agrees. Life’s hustle often makes it easy to neglect our health.
Many people face health issues because they overlook the importance of caring for themselves while dealing with life's pressures.
World Health Day, celebrated every April 7, highlights a health topic chosen by the World Health Organization (WHO).
This year’s theme is "Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures".
The WHO says the campaign urges governments and health communities to focus on reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths and improving women’s long-term health and well-being.
Want to stay healthy at work? Here are five easy ideas to help you and your team take better care of your well-being.
1. Duvet days
These are days off just for rest and recovery. They’re not sick leave or annual leave – they’re for when you need a break to recharge your body and mind. Some companies offer them to support employee wellness.
2. Staff wellness days
This is when companies bring in health professionals to the office. There could be health checks, wellness talks, or even short exercise sessions. It’s usually organised by HR or a culture committee and helps boost staff morale.
3. Creative spaces
Being creative is good for mental health. You can set up relaxed areas where staff can take breaks or brainstorm. These could be chill zones, fun meeting rooms, or places to play.

4. Healthy food in the canteen
Help your team build better eating habits by offering healthy, tasty food at work. Work with a nutritionist to add nutritious meals to the canteen menu.
Healthy food doesn’t have to be boring – there are plenty of ways to make it delicious. When people see that eating well can still taste great, they’re more likely to give it a try.
5. Exercise zones
Get people moving during the workday. You could set reminders to stretch or walk, or even offer short yoga or movement sessions once a week.
Make it fun – run a monthly step challenge or reward healthy habits like packing a balanced lunch or joining a fitness activity.
