Robert Gumede, a South African billionaire and founder of IT firm Gijima Technologies, decided to spoil his 18-year-old son, Robert Junior, for passing matric.

While most parents choose to take their child out for dinner or buy them a new cellphone, Gumede bought his son a Porsche 911 GT3. It is reported that the luxury car's price tag starts at a whopping R1.7-million. The 911 GT3 is a high-performance version of the Porsche 911 sports car, which is mainly intended for racing.

Another video is making the rounds showing the Gumede brothers showing off with their Porsches.

Here's how Twitter reacted after hearing the news:

But some people are now asking whether the gift is a bit too extreme for such a young kid. Hey, in my opinion, if dad’s got money, why not? If Robert Junior has passed his matric and this is a spoil, then I’m glad for him.

What do you make of it? Was this gift a bit too much from the dad, or each to their own?
