Watch: Drone footage captures majestic whales having fun in Umdloti
Updated | By Damon Beard
Splish splash! An East Coaster sent his drone out from Umdloti Beach and captured the most beautiful footage we've seen in a long time.
How often do we stop, look around, and realise just how magnificent the world around us is?
It’s so easy to take the gorgeous beachfront and amazing sunrises for granted, especially if you travel on the coastal road on a daily basis. It’s like we know the beach, whales, dolphins, and the incredible sunsets are there, but forget to stop and take their majesty in. It’s only when someone posts a video like this that we realise just how beautiful our part of the world is - and how lucky we are.

On Wednesday, 5 September, Umdloti resident Richard Melvill sent his drone out over Umdloti Beach, and the footage he captured is nothing short of spectacular.

The 3:15 video shot in 4K shows three humpback whales having the time of their lives, splish-splashing around with no care in the world.
"We were really lucky to have 3 Humpback whales playing right in front of us in Umdloti today. Hope you enjoy getting a closer view than from the beach," the video is captioned on Richard's YouTube account.
The video has over 4,000 views and counting - I can't really blame people for watching it. I can't believe that this happened right here on our doorstep.

I caught up with Richard to get an eyewitness account and a comment of the day he spotted the whales on the beach.
