Watch: Benoni mom and son robbed outside driveway
Updated | By Damon Beard
This mother and son are lucky to be alive after experiencing such an horrific ordeal.
The situation of crime and hijackings seems to be escalating year after year. According to the annual national crime statistics, there has been a 14.5% increase in hijackings between April 2016 and March 2017.
Sadly in this case, a mother and her son were robbed at gunpoint while they were heading home, and it happened outside their driveway.
According to Benoni City Times, the incident occurred in Rynfield, Benoni on the 6th of April. Unfortunately, the mom did not have her house keys with her and had to wait for someone in the home to open their gate.
In a split second, a car pulls up behind them, and two men get out. The quick-thinking son then put his car in reverse to damage the car so that it could be spotted easily.

The suspects stole jewellery from the mom and left her bruised. They drove off shortly after. A case of robbery has been opened at a local police station.
I suggest that you should not wait outside for someone to open the gate for you. Instead, alert someone that you are coming over so that they can wait for you nearby. Waiting outside a gate in your car makes it easier for situations like this to occur.
