No matter how hard we try to run away from myths, there are still a few that we choose to believe in.

A KZN man sent through a voice note on the WhatsApp line telling us about how his girlfriend called him out about his sleeping position. She mentions that it's the way he sleeps that's giving him nightmares.

I've never quite heard about this myth. I mean, how is it possible that the way you sleep affects the way you dream or behave? I'm the type of person that once my head hits the pillow, I'm sound asleep.

I came across articles from SleepRate and EatingWell which both bust the most common sleep myths. I must be honest, I'm brave enough to admit that I have believed a few of these to be true.

Myth: You HAVE to get eight hours of sleep - Sleep is dependent on you. It is recommended you get between seven to nine hours of downtime per night, but it all depends on your body.

Myth: Less sleep means you're more successful - Granted we've all pulled a few late nights here and there to put in extra work or study time, but your body needs sleep to survive and the less sleep you get, the chances are that you will land up sick.

Myth: Herbal tea will put you to bed quicker - Although herbal tea claims to have proven sleep-aiding properties, it has not been clinically proven that it works.

Myth: Warm milk before bed will make you fall asleep - When milk was scientifically tested, it did not affect a person's sleep patterns.

I will never think about sleep the same again. But not just sleep, there are tons of other myths that people have believed to be true over the years.
