The television personality gets real on what it
was like battling the coronavirus twice and the effect the virus has
had on him.
There is a very real threat of contracting the coronavirus twice and for television personality Zola Hashatsi, that was a very real experience for him. In a candid conversation with Carol Ofori, the star details how the virus affected him differently in each case and how at one point, he thought he was going to die.
Hashatsi is a man who is always bubbly and full of life. He has a remarkably positive outlook on life and is what many call an ultimate optimist. However, during his battles with COVID-19, Zola admits that there were times that he was convinced he wouldn’t make it out alive. Zola is also one of the few to have tested positive twice, highlighting the fact that antibody immunity is only around for a short period of time.

“I am alive and kicking,” an elated Zola tells Carol at the start of the interview. Sharing his story, Zola adds that when he first tested positive for the virus in July 2020, he was shocked at the result and quickly started panicking. “[Testing positive] was one of those things that I never thought would happen to me,” Zola admits. “It was quite scary.”
The presenter explains that he contracted the virus after doing a voice over for a client. “Two days later, I got a call from the production house who told me that the guy I was doing the voice over with tested positive so they advised me to go test. After I tested, I got a call from my doctor and confirmed that I tested positive.”

Zola admits that panic set in because just days before his diagnosis, a friend of his passed away from the disease. However, after isolating and feeling mild symptoms, Zola recovered.
Then, in December last year, Zola contracted the virus for a second time – and the experience was a lot more severe this time around. Zola believes he got exposed to the virus while he was helping out a friend whose mother had just passed away and transporting the body and attending a funeral.
After the funeral, Zola admits that the symptoms became incredibly severe. “I couldn’t drive back,” he explains. “I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t eat, I was vomiting and I battled diarrhoea.”
Zola adds that things got so bad he says he had “an out-of body-experience.”
Speaking to Carol, Zola says: “My spirit left my body and looked down on me,” he says. “I feel I literally died and went on to have a conversation with Jesus where I asked him ‘Surely it can’t end like this?’ And then I came back.”
