"Why did no one warn me about this in Durban?"

We are rather familiar with seeing monkeys on our properties. It has become a routine part of our daily lives. We have learnt to co-exist with our primate family in ways we didn't expect to.

We have gone from locking our doors and acting like we are not home to ignoring their attempts at communication when they stare at us from the window. This is classic family dynamics.

But it seems we failed to acknowledge that South Africans from other parts of SA don't always experience this 'monkey business' in their provinces.

A Cape Town woman, Cassidy Botha, moved to Durban and felt like she was left in the dark about our friendly neighbourhood watchers, the Vervet Monkeys

Reading the comments was hilarious, with many people questioning why she moved to Durban.

  • "Frr 😂I also moved to Durban from Cape Town; they always steal my bread."
  • "It’s common in many parts of South Africa, though. Especially with lush vegetation"
  • "Don't feed them Don't even try to touch them😭 never eat around them lock ur windows or they'll steal ur noodles"
  • "At least wena they are chilling, they came into the kitchen, took my sandwich I had just removed from the toaster and sat in my driveway eating it"
  • "It's stated in section 5, sub-section a of the "Moving to Durban from Cape Town" Pack. I'll send you a link to the drive"

People were also confused that she had never seen this in Cape Town, but she said, "Well, I've lived in CPT my whole life and never seen one"
