What do you think of nap desks at school?
Updated | By East Coast Radio
The benefits of napping are said to be amazing. Perhaps this is the secret to happiness?
There have been many companies that have come out with chill areas or napping stations at work, mostly because they have researched the benefits that come with napping.
From nap pod stations to calm rooms, it can be said that the benefits that come with napping can be more rewarding than time-wasting.
When it comes to kids, most parenting experts and medical professionals say that kids' naps fall away as they grow. Some parents notice it as early as one or two years old, while others say their five-year-olds still nap.
If the benefits of napping for adults can be so productive on their mental and physical state, then can you imagine what a nap could do for a kid?
Yes, we agree that not all kids are the same, just like not all adults are the same, but if we have to delve deeper into the reason why kids get overstimulated and fussy, we could say it has a lot to do with tiredness.
And very rarely would any parent find a kid who willingly says they need a nap.

For schools in China, it is not a new phenomenon to encourage nap time during the school day. In fact, in 2022 we saw a school ditching the idea of allowing kids to nap on their desks for health reasons like spinal health and sleep quality.
"A primary school in China has been praised for radicalising nap time by allowing students to build tents in which to rest so they get healthier sleep lying flat on the ground. While most primary school students in China take their noon nap by resting their heads on their desks or use the time to do homework, Xingfuhe Elementary School in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, eastern China, does things differently." Sounds life-changing, if you ask us.

Building tents is one thing, but we came across a video on TikTok that shows specially-configured nap desks that allow students' chairs to recline.
This way they can still nap at their desks with just one swift movement. We are moving into a world that is prioritising self-care as it links to positive mental and physical health in so many ways. So, if this is the future of the school and work environment, then it's a 'yes' from us.
