What an inspiring way of representing our diverse nation...
Celebrating women from all parts of South Africa and the world is what Carol Ofori thrives on.
This week, as part of her woman crush Wednesday post, she is celebrating former Miss India South Africa, educator, mother, and author - Maashi Rampersad.
But that's not all. Maashi is also passionate about isiZulu and her passion has driven her to publish her first book, "titled ‘Your Basic isiZulu Guide to the Kingdom of the Zulu’, to help propel the spirit of uBuntu in all communities of KwaZulu-Natal." (Tabloid Media)
When asked about her biggest achievement, she noted her Miss India South Africa title, as well as being able to publish her first book.
Maashi started her journey with isiZulu twenty years ago, when she set off on her undergraduate career. Her love for learning and the language pushed her to choose isiZulu as one of her majors. This eventually led to her completing her Honours and Masters Degrees in isiZulu.
Rampersad shared this with The Bugle: "My vision for this book is that it should be a 'survival guide' and a clear lens through which our fellow South Africans, and our global family of brothers and sisters visiting our beautiful country, would be able to learn the basics of isiZulu and communicate efficiently and confidently in this language adored and spoken on the daily basis by many millions in South Africa."
She is a family person and enjoys spending time with her loved ones, traveling, and watching movies. And you won't believe it, but she was once part of the extended ECR family.
Her husband is the legendary Ravi R, who used to be an ECR presenter way back when.
Rampersad speaks fondly about meeting the father of our nation over two decades ago.
"During my Miss India South Africa reign I was truly blessed to meet the leading light of our country, Nelson Mandela, who encouraged me to assist in making our nation more literate in isiZulu." (The Bugle)
And here she is, sticking to her promise with her book. Her passion for our province's leading language is both inspiring and necessary. It is in fact a true representation of being part of a rainbow nation and we hope that you will give her book a chance...
