WCW: KZN musician Gwyn hits high notes with community work
Updated | By East Coast Radio
A woman with a mission to help children who are struggling with their school work and parents who are trying to make ends meet.
Noxolo Jacqueline Gwyneth Makhanya isn't just a soulful KZN vocalist; she is also an aspirational woman who wants to help her community.
She started singing at the tender age of 10 and pursued her musical dream by studying at the Musical College Campus of Performing Arts.
After her studies and some experience, she was discovered by a businessman David Manal, who hired her to sing at his restaurant, Cafe La Plage.
Her music has allowed her to travel to places such as Germany, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Limpopo, and around KZN.
But it was during the pandemic that she found a calling. She realised that the pandemic caused her son to struggle in school. He wasn't the only one experiencing this, as many of his classmates were also having trouble keeping up with their curriculum.
So, she decided to help. When parents heard about what she was doing, they were happy to send their kids at a cost of R50.
Have a listen to her story below while she was on air:

As some time passed, Gwyn noticed that many parents were unable to pay her, so she continued with the remedial classes at no cost.
She is trying to do it all, but it has become challenging. Gwyn says that sometimes these kids also require food, but she isn't always able to help them.
She is currently pursuing a cosmetics business, which she hopes will help her fund a community feeding scheme.
