#WCW: Diary of an overcomer: "I had a tiny lump on my right breast and wanted to get it examined..."
Updated | By East Coast Radio
We hear her story and celebrate her strength this Woman Crush Wednesday...
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in honour of all our survivors and even to those that lost their battles, we wanted to celebrate their fight, their energy, their families, and all that they stood for in their journeys.
Charlene Govender, a survivor, shares her personal story with us. We know that she has been through so much, and we hope that this can help others find some way forward, some inspiration, some sort of healing...
I clearly remember the carefree wife and mother of 2 thinking life could not get any better…She was living her best life, believing bad things never happened to good people...definitely not her!- Charlene Govender

We heard about Charlene and her story through her friend, who was previously one of our woman crushes, Alicia Koopman. She actually was doing something in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness and wanted to help her friend in some way.
Of course, there is nothing quite like support, because like death, there are no words that can repair or eliminate what a patient is going through. The peaks and drops that come with the experience can be a lonely and life changing experience.
But that is why we wanted to help Charlene share her story, because as much as her experience may be unique to her and her family, it can resonate with someone out there who really needed to hear that it's going to be okay, you are in control.
"Alicia from Aleesé Hear Me Roar has recently wanted decided to venture out by adding Aleesé It's Resin accessories... Taking on this challenge she decided to dedicate 50 pairs of earrings with all proceeds going to the Reach for Recovery cancer organisation in honor of Charlene Govender and brave fight... Earrings were sold out on the same day of launch." (Alicia Koopman)
Alicia shared that just after releasing the sale of the earrings for the fundraiser, they were all sold out in a matter of minutes. This was a true sentiment that as a community we really do come together, and we want to share our support the best we can.
We may not have the right words or the solutions, but we have faith and courage and that goes a long way...
