Thomas Yates collects face masks off the streets and transforms them into beautiful pieces of art...
Many people have had to adapt since the pandemic came to be, whether that meant with becoming more savvy with cooking hacks, to cutting down costs in a resourceful way that helps you and your family.
However, as much as it has been trying for many people around the world, it has also allowed many people to thrive with new and innovative business ideas. Others have found that they have found causes that they are truly passionate about, and some have even admitted that this time has allowed them to walk a path they have been afraid of...
So it is safe to say that the pandemic has been fruitful for some and when there is a light at the end of a tunnel, we take it and we make the most of it. More than that, we share that light so that others can feel a sense of hope and perhaps restore their faith in things changing for the better.
Thomas Yates is a 45-year-old whose job was made redundant when the pandemic hit. He decided to use his newfound free time to clear the streets of the "disgraceful" litter whilst also creating something beautiful from other people's dirt.

I have questioned myself, 'Why am I making art out of litter?' And the bigger the pieces you got the more time I spend but then I've always just pushed on with it and then when you see the end results, you know, I think they're quite good. It just shows that you can make something from a load of crap on the side of the road.- Thomas Yates

Thomas used gloves when picking up the litter as a safety measure and always left the rubbish to sit for a day or two. He was amazed at how many masks get disposed of incorrectly, and especially during a time that we all should be practicing good hygiene.
