It's unlikely that he went up there out of fear? Unless...
It is a rare occasion that we see the almighty Lion King showing any indication of fear. Of course, it is in their nature to be the protector, the hunter, the fierce and the brave (from what we know of Mufasa and Simba).
But in this case, a video shows off a lion holding onto a tree for his dear life - and it has the internet confused. The video, which was shared on the Instagram page, Wild Animal Shorts, has the caption: "Lion clambing on tree for save his life fr Heard of buffalo".

The caption obviously indicates that the lion is afraid of the herd of buffalo and therefore climbed up the tree. But we have to agree with some of the commenters who reveal that this is very much unlike the character of a male lion.
A few people even got into a heated discussion over the lion in the video. Could it be that the lion just needed something to scratch his face on? Or perhaps it was all a trap to pounce on his prey...
Perhaps he was having a bad day and just needed to hug a tree?
Others took to the post to share their 'Lion King' humour. Whatever the reasoning was for the lion climbing up that tree, the rules of the jungle have always been known as finite.
But perhaps there is an element of wildlife that we can relate to more than we realise? Perhaps wild animals also have days where they are in their feelings about something? If that is the case, then we hope this guy felt better after hugging that tree...
