Living in a country like South Africa has opened up our minds to a variety of cultural and traditional practices.
One that is quite rife in society is that of traditional medicine. Also known to many as 'umuti'.
Traditional healers, Sangomas, and Witch Doctors are all terms used to describe people who are learned within this field.
It's, of course, not always a supported way of life, but surprisingly many people are using these traditional healers. With promises that get them love, financial success, and even harming other people, it is an industry that is quite popular amongst society.
The surprising part about TikTok sensation Gogo Maweni, a Sangoma, is that she has popularised this practice over social media.
And has almost normalised it. Where once it was a sensitive topic, that not many people would willingly admit they practice, now it has become more accepted.
Well, that's from what we can see online. The above video from her page got loads of views when she showed herself waking up with her python coiled around her.
She is gaining traction on social media for her open and honest approach to using umuti (traditional medicine).
And not only that, but she also recently appeared on an episode of 'Sitting with Stan'.
Whatever you believe in, is your choice in life.
Regardless of what your beliefs are, always remember to try and find a voice of reason when making any decision.
Especially when it comes to someone else's life.
