This is a good example of why you should listen to your kids...

A terrifying reality for parents is realising just how many everyday objects can become safety hazards.

One mother was shocked to discover that her three-year-old had not only swallowed one of her earrings but had also pushed the other up her nose.

Sharing her experience on social media, Joy Hankins admitted she didn’t believe her daughter, Amiah, at first when she casually said, "I ate my earrings, Mom."

Thinking Amiah was just being a playful toddler, she dismissed it as a fib. But after searching her daughter’s room and finding no sign of the earrings, she began to suspect her little one might be telling the truth.

Hankins found it hard to believe when Amiah said, "I put the earring in my mouth, it went down my throat… and then I went to sleep."

But after calling the doctor and taking her daughter for an x-ray, Hankins was stunned to learn that Amiah was telling the truth – she had indeed swallowed the earring.

The scan revealed one earring in her abdomen, and that’s when Amiah casually informed her mother that the second one was in her nose.

Hankins was grateful she listened to her toddler and took her for the X-ray – she couldn’t bear to imagine what might have happened if she hadn’t, especially since Amiah had slept an entire night with the earrings inside her body.
