#Unshaken: Durbanite Alicia Koopman - "The sky is not the limit, you have to go beyond that!"
Updated | By East Coast Radio
We celebrate a young and inspiring Durbanite this Women Crush Wednesday.
A few weeks ago, Carol Ofori chatted to us about a young woman doing such great things, a woman that didn't let the challenges of her life overpower her - she took things into her own hands and made things happen.
We got in touch with Durbanite Alicia Koopman who shared her story with us. She has been through a lot but she has managed to rise from the ashes, like the beautiful Phoenix that she is. Here's her story:
"It involved a lot of hard work, burning the midnight oil and trying to balance
work and the everyday life. But through it all I saw the light at the end of
the tunnel. God played a major role in my journey as he joined the dots and
connected me to all the right people, who honestly made a huge contribution to
my achievements.
"Hi, I'm Alley, the owner of a small business called Aleesé Hear Me Roar..."
Alley's story has all the makings of a story that can both inspire and also leave you with chills. She managed to wrap key bits of her life story (till now) for us and made sure that she left us with some roaring when she said: "I believed there was only one way and that way was proving your current situation doesn't define your end results. I knew the saying the sky is the limit but I always said GO BEYOND THAT!"
"My aim is to inspire and motivate every person I come into contact with to
reassure them that all it takes is faith as small as a mustard seed, and a lot
of faith in yourself to reach lengths that seemed impossible but are possible.
A person using an Aleesé item is just not using an item of a lady that was once a
girl that was afraid to face the world, but a lady that now takes every challenge head on."
Besides stores like Mr. Price and online store Zando, she is in the process of launching her brand on Takealot, one of South Africa's leading online shopping portals.
She ended off her interview by saying: "My journey is to inspire, motivate, and encourage people to chase after their dreams. All it takes is courage, determination, self love, and a lot of hard work.
"It's time to rise up, it's time to stand tall."
Even though her company burnt down during the unrest, she has come back stronger and has started doing baby wear. She feels like if she inspires just one person on her journey, then her goal will be reached.
