A recent survey by Dating.com reveals that singles aren’t
looking for six packs but are, in fact, attracted to the ‘dad bod’.
Cancel your gym contracts, gentlemen! A recent survey taken by singles on popular global dating app Dating.com has noted that 75% of those surveyed prefer dating a man with a dad bod over someone with rock-hard abs. This is certainly good news for those who have packed on a few kilos during the national lockdown.
Dating.com interviewed 2,000 applicants and simply asked them what their preferred body type was. Interestingly, 75% of respondents said that they were attracted to the ‘dad bod’, while 20% admitted that body type didn’t matter to them and that they preferred personality over appearance.
15% of respondents, however, said they preferred a ‘Barbie or Ken-like body type’.

Maria Sullivan, dating expert and vice-president of Dating.com says that “Very fit and in shape bodies are seen as ideal when it comes to attracting a partner; however, the users of Dating.com just proved that isn’t always the case when it comes to real life romances.”
She adds: “Movies and TV shows tend to promote Barbie and Ken body types, giving people the idea that they need to look similar in order to find their match. We’re happy to be able to confirm that is not how the real world actually operate.”

Interestingly, those with dad bods own the way that their body looks, with 45% of the survey respondents who had a dad bod revealing that they put ‘#dadbod’ in their bios because they’re proud of their appearance.
In addition, Dating.com experts have compiled the following tips for boosting confidence during both virtual and in-person dates.
- Do a workout. Before getting ready for your date, do a quick workout to help release of those nervous pre-date jitters. Exercising will also help you feel more confident in the way you look.
- Pick out a nice outfit. Get dressed in your favourite shirt or dress. When you look good, you feel good, and you can throw your favourite hoody back on after the date.
- Play your favourite music. Tuning out your thoughts with some of your favourite music in order to help you distract you from your anxiety and will help boost your mood.
- Have a glass of your favourite wine or alcoholic beverage. A little liquid courage will help to boost your confidence and get the conversation flowing. Always remember to drink responsibly!
