Recently, we welcomed Sky's baby boy into the world and the topic around paternity and maternity leave came up. Of course, there has been a somewhat unjust view when it comes to the time mothers and fathers have when their babies are born. 

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends that an infant is breastfed for the first six months of their lives. But the reality is that many mothers are unable to commit to this recommendation due to their career demands and the limiting circumstances. 

In the USA, the Centre for Disease and Prevention revealed that 60% of mothers do not breastfeed for the time they would prefer, due to "unsupportive work policies and lack of parental leave." (Business Insider)

So it's with great excitement that we hear about a software company, ActiveCampaign, and their attempt in trying to boost the breastfeeding rates among their staff of nursing mothers. 

"The company has partnered with breast milk delivery startup Milk Stork to allow mothers to continue giving breast milk to their infants while continuing with their careers." (Business Insider)

Milk Stork helps mother who have to travel for work by providing a breastmilk delivery service. The companies will work together, with Milk Stork offering a 15-20% discount to ActiveCampaign and the company will fit the full cost for their nursing mothers who choose to use the service.

This option has opened up a world of options for mothers to be able to bond with their infants as well as improve the rates of breastfed babies. It is a forward way of thinking for many companies who have still not evolved in their leave policies surrounding parenting. 

In a time where we are all about celebrating our wins as women, should we not celebrate both the experience of motherhood as well as the will and drive to create a fulfilling career for ourselves? Whoop, whoop, yes, yes dear...

The Chief People Officer at ActiveCampaign told Business Insider: "When a mother chooses breastfeeding as a primary source of nutrition for their baby, offering this service will take away the difficult choice and guilt they may feel by returning to work." 

There's one thing for certain, this company cares about the mental well-being of their staff. They also understand the benefits of ensuring that mothers bond and engage with their babies at such a milestone moment in their lives, both for the mother and the child. 

Jenni Weinacht, who oversees the accounting team at ActiveCampaign and who is a mom herself, said that when companies offer breastfeeding benefits, it sends the message: "I see and value your experiences as working mothers, and I am here to support you." (Business Insider)
