Shoprite sends mobile store trucks to communities affected by looting

Shoprite gets innovative with servicing the communities that we hit the hardest during the unrest and looting.
We have all been through a lot over the past couple of weeks. Some are still trying to get over the paranoia when it comes to the safety of themselves and their families. The unrest has shaken many of us up, some have used the amazing community initiatives to bring hope into their lives, whilst others are still trying to pick themselves up.
Whatever the situation, businesses have had to clear out the dust, wipe away their tears, and push forward. Because the truth is there is no time to wait for things to come right, you have to take one step forward and make the change.
When it comes to having to work two-fold, Shoprite can be said to be acting both innovatively, as well as trying to keep to their sense of community. They decided to use their Usave Ekasi Mobile Stores to service communities whose malls and stores are in the process of being rebuilt.
The Usave Ekasi Mobile Stores were introduced during the first lockdown.
The Jabulani Mall, which is located in South Africa's largest township, Soweto, was one of the malls that was damaged and looted during the unrest two weeks ago. Due to the immense damages, the community, who have relied on the mall to do their shopping, have had no other place to get their groceries.
This is what motivated the Shoprite group to send out the mobile store trucks through to the Jabulani community, where they have been stationed for some time. The trucks will be moving to the Ratanda community, South of Johannesburg, thereafter.
The Shoprite group was hit hard at many of their stores and is currently working at getting their stores either rebuilt or restocked.
We hope that in a few months this will all be a distant memory for all of us. Hopefully South Africa can heal from all that has happened and we can come back with more spirit and more unity.
