Hearing about projects that recycle waste while helping underprivileged communities brings joy to our heart.

One project that seems to have gone unnoticed until now shows a group of underprivileged women using recycled teabags to create art.

The project was spearheaded by Jill Heyes, a former art teacher from England.

"Seeing the poverty in Imizamo Yethu, a seaside suburb of Hout Bay, she decided to do something to help the underprivileged women." (Brand South Africa)

Original T-Bag Designs was born after Heyes was having tea with a friend.

"She felt that the products she came up with were not unique enough for people to want to buy them. A special friend suggested using a tea bag, and it was decided that this would be a canvas on which the ladies could express their creativity. The tea bags were then put on cards and stationery items." (Brand South Africa)

From then on, the business Original T-Bag Designs was born, and a community of women used recycled tea bags as canvases.

Watch the video below, which explains a bit about the project that helps women earn an income.
