PARENTING: Father opens up about feeling a lot of pressure
Updated | By East Coast Radio
"My son is four, and we only started developing a relationship when he started talking."
It's not often that you find parents being open about their experiences with their kids.
Mostly because of the fear of being judged by those that live under the 'perfect parent society'.
But after this mother's open letter, it encouraged a father to share his honest experience with being a father and how it isn't always a bed of roses.
He admitted that he felt like an "addendum" of a parent to his son, being a first time parent.
After once dropping him from the escalator, he felt like a clumsy father...
"I could feel the disapproval in the stares from people. I also thought it was an opportunity for him to really do me his first solid by not crying as loudly and for as long as he did—what a moment." (News24)
He even went on to share that he feels for young fathers who feel lost in the process of being a father and the expectations from everyone to do something.
It can be difficult to steer parenting being a father and feeling needed when the first couple of months are very much mommy-baby centred.
So this father's honest account is truly inspired for fathers who are feeling the heat with parenting.
"And while you were the centre of your wife's attention only a short while ago, now there is this whole other person who rightly needs 24-hour attention. I found that it was a lot to deal with. I started finding my place when my son and I started communicating verbally." (News24)

As he progresses and finds his feet, he has become a father to a baby girl. And has been honest that things have been much more connective for him with his second born.
"My daughter was born a few months ago, and how we've bonded despite her inability to talk awes me. Something amazing is happening there." (News24)
All in all, it is comforting to hear more and more parents sharing their journeys.
It helps parents out there who are struggling, and making us all realise that it's not about society, but rather the special bond between parents and their kids.
